Chinese New Year : brisk sales for national car

PETALING JAYA: Sales of new cars are roaring as the Year of the Rabbit approaches, with some models already out of stock.
National car maker Proton has sold about 11,000 units as at Jan 26, and a spokesman said it expects the number to hit 18,000 by Chinese New Year.
“The figure is higher than the corresponding period last year,” he told The Star, attributing the brisk sales to new models and an improving economy.
The Saga FL and Inspira models were the most popular this month, and Proton had enough stock for the festive period, he said.
“In general, we have ample stock with exception only to the Inspira 2.0 CVT. We are honouring outstanding bookings,” he added.
Going like hot cakes: A prospective buyer looking at a new car at a showroom in Petaling Jaya Sunday.
At the Taman Tun Dr Ismail branch, a Proton salesman said it would take up to a month for a new car to be delivered.
Meanwhile, sales of Nissan cars were also increasing, with the Teana, Grand Livina and Sylphy being the more popular models.
Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd executive director Datuk Dr Ang Bon Beng said the company expected January sales to increase by 10% to 15% compared to the same month last year.
However, he said the figures were lower than in November and December as many customers had booked early.
“With Chinese New Year falling in early February, bookings started to build up from mid-November last year in order to ensure delivery before Chinese New Year,” he said.
A Toyota salesman here said a total of 203 cars had been sold this month so far.
He said 130 of them would be delivered by Chinese New Year.
A Perodua branch salesman said sales were brisk, with five to 10 cars sold daily this month.
Recently, analyst Frost and Sullivan forecast that the total industry volume (TIV) would increase by 4.1% year-on-year to 623,000 units in 2011. The forecast in 2010 was 598,200 units.
OSK Investment Research made a similar forecast, predicting TIV to grow 4% this year.
However, Malay Automobile Importers and Distributors of Malaysia (Pekema) president Datuk Zainuddin A. Rahman said luxury vehicles sales was down.

Is it a big deal? when somebody talk about cloning?

The different?

Proton Inspira was inspired by Lancer
THE above picture shows a sneak preview of an all-new Proton saloon, the mid-sized four-door Inspira.
If you thought you were looking at a Mitsubishi Lancer, you're not wrong.

The Inspira was developed from a Mitsubishi Lancer and are the fruits of Proton's relationship with Mitsubishi Motors. It will replace the Proton Waja saloon.

There will be a choice of two engines -- a Mitsubishi 1.8-litre or a 2.0-litre engine. A CVT box with six virtual gears or a five-speed manual can be chosen with the 1-8-litre variant. The 2.0-litre range-topper will get the same CVT box as well.

Clearly the collaboration had benefited Proton.
Proton Group's managing director Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir told Bernama that the collaboration helped Proton save a lot of funds and time.
He said of the relationship, 'It's cheaper from the company's point of view.' Developing a new car would cost up to RM700million (S$295 million), he added.
With a starting price of RM79,888, the Inspira will come with either a 1.8- or 2.0-litre Mitsubishi engine. You can choose to pair it with a five-speed manual or a six-speed continuously variable transmission.

Presumably only the 2.0-litre variant will also get the innovation vehicle electronic control system.
Other features customers stand to gain from include auto cruise, automatic light and rain sensors, welcome and coming home light system, climate control for both front and rear occupants, and all-round airbags for passengers' safety.
Proton aims to sell 1,600 units of the Inspira a month.
'The market for the C-Segment cars is about 5,000-6,000 units a month. So, we are looking at 1,600 a month as it is value for money,' Syed Zainal said.
He also added that there are plans to export the Inspira.
Prices start from RM79,888.

Inspira will be at every country???

Proton Holdings Bhd may produce the newly launched Proton Inspira for export as early as next year.
"We are finalising our discussion with Mitsubishi Motor Corporation (MMC) on how we can export this model," Proton managing director Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir said at the launch of the Inspira here yesterday.

The car was unveiled by International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed and Proton adviser Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Syed Zainal said locally-made components for the Inspira, based on the Mitsubishi Lancer GT model, would also be exported.
"We received a commitment from MMC that parts made in Malaysia will also be purchased by MMC for export, particularly to Thailand and other parts of the world."

Syed Zainal said the export potential of components would begin next year.

The Inspira, meant for the local market, is a result of a strategic alliance with MMC. It is the first Proton car to be equipped with the Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Timing Electronic Control system, better known as Mivec technology.

Syed Zainal said Proton's plans to expand its product portfolio through its collaboration with the MMC, which included the supply or development of platform and power trains.

"There is potential but it's still under discussion," he said, when asked about the plans with the MMC.

The Inspira has about 26 per cent local content. This will be raised to 40 per cent within the next few months, and up to 60 per cent within a year, once the local vendors are fully prepped.

Proton has received 1,800 bookings since the soft launch on Oct 14. It is expecting monthly sales of 1,600 units.

The Inspira comes in two different engine capacities -- the 1.8 litre and the 2.0 litre.

The Inspira 1.8 MT is sold at RM78,549, the 1.8 CVT at RM84,549 and the 2.0 CVT at RM91,549. All prices are exclude insurance.

Meanwhile, Mustapa said study on the consolidation of the local car industry was almost complete.

The government, he said, had yet to decide on the consolidation between Proton and Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua).

"The study is almost complete but it has not been formally presented to the government."

The full-specs and test drive of INSPIRA

At a glance, there’s almost zero difference between the Inspira and Lancer save for Proton’s unique front end design, which is of a V-shape as opposed to Mitsubishi’s trademark trapezoidal “jet fighter” grille. Besides the obvious fact that the change is needed to differentiate the cars, Proton deliberately wanted to move away from the Lancer “too aggressive” look, according to the engineers.

At the rear, you’ll find 2.0 P or 1.8 E to mark the variants, the latter available in both manual and CVT versions. As mentioned in our preview drive, P stands for Premium and E stands for Executive in Proton’s new naming scheme, P being the higher spec. There’s a chrome strip at the bottom edge of the boot, like on the Lancer EX. The Proton’s bumper is unique as it has a black painted “diffuser style” design, as opposed to the straightforward item on the Lancer. The reflectors sit within the black area.
Like the Lancer EX, the Inspira wears 16-inch wheels with 205/60 rubber. With the Proton, you get unique Continental Comfort Contact CC5 tyres with compounds that were specifically developed for the car. The rim design looks much better without the black disguise tape on the pre-production cars. Suspension tuning also differs from the Lancer, as detailed in two rounds of preview tests we did. Click here and here to read them.

Inside, the differences are minimal. The three-spoke steering design has a Proton badge of course, and the instruments look the same. However, we just noticed that the “left speedo, right tacho” layout of the Lancer has been reversed for the Inspira, which has its rev meter on the left side. The multi-info screen is the orange one as per the Lancer sedan, not the full colour version on the Lancer Sportback. The wood trim in the P spec Inspiras are dark brown coloured (Lancer EX has greyish wood) while the 1.8 E gets a matte silver trim that’s nice to touch. All else is identical to these eyes, including the grade of plastics.
The 4B10 1.8 litre pot found on the two Executive variants offers 140 hp at 6,000rpm and 177 Nm at 4,250rpm, while the 4B11 2.0 litre block in the Premium has 150 hp and 197 Nm at the same rpm as above. Performance-wise, the 1.8 manual has a claimed top speed of 202 kph and a 0-100 kph sprint time of 10.0 secs, while that of the 1.8 CVT is 191 kph and 11.4 secs. As for the 2.0 Premium, it gets to 198 kph and does the century sprint in 10.5 secs. As for kerb weight, the manual rolls in at 1,300 kg, while the 1.8 CVT and 2.0 P are 1,325 kg and 1,335 kg respectively.
Four colours are available for the Inspira, and these are Plum Red, Solid White, Genetic Silver and Tranquility Black. In terms of specifications and equipment levels, the Inspira gets a fair bit of kit, though the 2.0 Premium version does naturally get more in the way of added gear.
Nonetheless, all three variants come with dual SRS airbags, leather steering wheel, front pre-tensioner seatbelts, ABS with EBD, immobiliser and alarm system, central door locking, Isofix point, reverse sensor, solar and security tinted film and steering wheel-mounted audio controls.

Other items on the features list across the board are trunk lid remote release, front fog lamps, welcome home light system, driver’s side anti-trap/auto up-down power window, height adjustable driver’s seat and a MP3/Bluetooth-enabled CD player audio system with Arkamys 3D DSP.
As befits its Premium suffix, the Inspira 2.0 gets a number of differentiation points and features compared to the two 1.8 Executive models, and these are:
  • Cruise control (with steering wheel-mounted switches)
  • Column-mounted paddle shift controls
  • Automatic climate control
  • Auto headlamp and rain sensors.
  • Body kit and rear spoiler.
  • Leather seats and door trim finishing (the 1.8 versions are in fabric)
  • A GPS navigation system.

Awesome! The price is to cheap for the high performance... Is it great for your wallet? Be smarter person dude....

Proton has successfully launched its new model, Proton Inspira which is the result of technology sharing between Proton and Mitsubishi. The New Proton Inspira Review

Car : Proton Inspira 2.0GT
Price : Rm91,999 OTR

Excited to hear that Proton already launched their new Proton Inspira ( aka Mitsubishi Lancer copy ). I dropped by the Jln.Ipoh Proton showroom and already there are mountain of people catching their sights at the hot new Proton Inspira. At first, I warmed up my excitment with a 1.8 CVT maroon colour Proton Inspira parking outside the showroom. My first impression was that the front bumper design not as agressive and appealing as the Lancer GT.

The rear not much difference from the Lancer.

The vehicle come with Continental ContiComfort 205/60R16. Looking at the size of the tyre, Proton going for comfort with this vehicle.

Inside the showroom is the 2.0GT version. It comes with leather seat, body kit and spoiler.

Almost identical with the lancer. Direct copycat.

The 2.0 aluminium MIVEC engine.

Many buttons to play with.

This photo demonstrate the Inspira boot space. Personally nothing to shout about as this more to a performance car than a family car.

One thing I will consider to modify is the front bumper to make it more agressive look.

Sample of body kit for your consideration.

A must change for the car fanatic. The rear light with LED. Cool looking. In conclusion, I believe the price for Inspira is fantastic and it certainly hot up the local car market and also the acessories for those modify car craze people.
